To all generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now and into the future as the Traditional Owners of the lands in on which we live and work.
About Us
Ngaweeyan Maar-oo is the shared decision-making partner with the Victorian Government and the Coalition of Peaks on Closing the Gap implementation in Victoria.
Our vision is to Close the Gap together in equal partnership with government so that our families are self-determining, culturally strong, free from racism and able to experience prosperity and safety.
Ngaweeyan Maar-oo is comprised of 14 elected sector representatives from 13 Aboriginal community-controlled sector organisations that support the Closing the Gap target objectives, and 9 delegates from the Aboriginal Caucuses of Victorian Aboriginal Governance Forums. We represent the interests and expertise of the ACCO sector and Aboriginal Governance Forums and is accountable to its Members and Communities.
Our Purpose
Ngaweeyan Maar-oo’s purpose is to inform the design, implementation, oversight, and monitoring of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap (National Agreement) and Victorian Closing the Gap Implementation Plan, in partnership with the Victorian government.
Ngaweeyan Maar-oo is committed to prioritising self-determined solutions that promote culture, connection and community strengthening to preserve Aboriginal culture, support Aboriginal Elders, empower the next generation of proud, strong and thriving Aboriginal people, and ultimately Close the Gap.
Co-Chairs
Ngaweeyan Maar-oo is led by Membership appointed Co-Chairs, who work closely with and are guided by the Members to make decisions in relation to policy, strategy, and governance.
